When Porsche introduced the Cayenne SUV back in 2002, purists flipped out. How could the company that built their beloved 911s be making some blasphemous SUV? How could they dilute their brand like that? Well, the truth was the Cayenne helped save Porsche from bankruptcy and in turn allowed for more money to be invested into the 911. Funny how that all worked out. Anyway, it’s safe to say that over the years, the Cayenne has become a staple among the Porsche lineup.

Most recently, Porsche introduced the Cayenne Coupe, Porsche’s answer to the whole “SUV coupe” trend introduced by the BMW X6 and the Mercedes GLE Coupe. But don’t let the name fool you, this SUV is stupidly fast. In Turbo S E-Hybrid form, the car makes a GT2RS rivaling 670 hp and a chassis twisting 663 lbs/ft of torque. This propels the 5,673 lb behemoth to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 183 mph. Well guess what, Porsche has made it clear that they would like to add even more variants and I think we’ve spotted a glimpse of an even faster Cayenne Coupe.

About 3 weeks ago, a video surfaced on YouTube featuring a white, camouflaged Cayenne Coupe speeding down the Nurburgring. From the video, you can clearly make out the sound of Porsche’s tried and true 4.0 liter twin turbo V8, and based on Porsche’s pattern with revealing new trims, there’s a possibility that we’re looking at the new Cayenne Coupe GTS. But our friends at CarBuzz have a different theory, which I think makes more sense.

Looking closely at the video, one thing you notice are two center mounted dual exhaust pipes, that’s not very GTS-ish. Also, in Porsche’s hierarchy, GTS models stack below the Turbo models and if this is the GTS, it will likely be powered by the Panamera GTS’ 453 hp V8. The car in the video is traveling at speeds that would be very hard to achieve with 453 hp. This points us to the possibility that this model is in fact a new flagship, rumored to be called the “GT.”

We’ve known for a while that Porsche has been working on a new Panamera model codenamed the “Lion” which is rumored to have around 800 hp. So there’s a good chance we’re looking at the Cayenne “Lion” or in this case the Cayenne Coupe GT. It looks like Porsche is ready to steal the crown for fastest SUV from the Audi RSQ8.
