As of right now I’d say the 992 GT3 is the most anticipated reveal from Porsche. Spotting prototypes on the open road has become almost a regular occurance as we near closer and closer to its inevitable reveal. And it seems like the more we see it, the less camouflage it has. I’m still a bit iffy about that swan-neck wing, but I need to see it with the rest of the car to be sure. Other than that, the 992 GT3 is looking to be a pretty handsome car. And now we know when we’re going to see it.

In an annual fundraising gala hosted by the Petersen Automotive Museum (one of my favorite places in the world) an auction was held for a build slot for a “soon to be announced Porsche GT model.” They described the car as “the product of years of testing and work by Porsche’s Weissach engineers to bring the car from the track to the streets” and their “teaser photo” confirmed that this was no Cayman GT4RS (another upcoming reveal). Now the photo they showed doesn’t feature the 992 GT3’s signature wing so this is either the new GT3 Touring, or some brand new GT car that we’ve never heard of before. I think it’s safe to say that this is the new GT3.
Bring a Trailer, which was partnering with the Petersen Museum for this auction, says this new car will be announced in “late January 2021.” I can’t wait.
Although we have a reveal date, we still have information on the specs; not even rumors. It’s very likely though that the 992 GT3 and GT3 Touring will be powered by a 4.0 liter naturally aspirated flat six that revs to at least 9000 RPM. As far as power output goes, I’d say we should expect anywhere between 520-550 hp considering Porsche gave a normal power bump to the Carrera models but a 60 hp increase to the 992 Turbo S. We’re also likely to see the return of a 6 speed manual option for the non RS models since it was such a hit for the 991.2 GT3.
This is where it counts, this is the car that I’m waiting for. Yeah the Turbo is cool and all, but nothing beats rowing your own gears at 9000 RPM. The GT3 Touring was my favorite 911 of the previous generation and I can’t wait to see what Porsche has to offer with the 992!
